Got the gardening bug but not sure what you can grow through winter? That's why we came up with this simple winter gardening guide! Container gardening is perfect for winter, allowing you to relocate your plants as needed. Use these tips and recommended crops for your winter veggie gardening!
If possible, start your crops either outdoors or in a greenhouse. If you don't have a greenhouse, place them in a location that recieves enough sunlight and bring them indoors before frost begins, or at night. Leafy greens need at least 6 hours while flowering plants need 2-3 more hours.
Choose containers with proper drainage. They may need less frequent watering when moved indoors, but will need more frequent fertilizing than plants grown in the ground. Use our matching saucers if you need to protect your floors.
Structures that can be used to keep your crops warm may include a greenhouse, a room with the right amount of window light, high tunnels or mini hoop houses.
Choose winter hardy crops so that they are less effected by dwindling amounts of sunlight and cool nights. Check your agricultural zone for recommendations on winter-hardy crops in your area.
